Having Courage to Care
Unfortunately there is no quick or easy solution to the problems of Indigenous health and their living standards because these situations have happened over generations, building up over time; it’s a very complex problem with no easy solution. Still, organisations like “Salvation Army” and “St Vinnie’s” donate money to poorer Aboriginals who are struggling with their money and health. “Survival” and “Caritas” also help Aboriginals in various ways but it is the organisations like “Regional Arts NSW” and “Convict Creations” that teach Aboriginals skills in how to sell their unique artwork and that make Australians more aware of the ‘hidden’ history of early Australia and the Aboriginals that are the most helpful.
Personal Actions
Individuals can help the Indigenous Australians by:
· Educating others about the health problems Indigenous Australians have in remote areas and how these came about
· Voting in politians who are prepared to work to make a difference to the Aboriginal communities
· Signing the Close the Gap Pledge on the Oxfam website. https://www.oxfam.org.au/my/act/sign-the-close-the-gap-pledge
By signing the petition organised by Oxfam, health equality for Indigenous Australians can be achieved in 25 years. This action is very simple but can make a huge difference to the lives of Aboriginals if lots of people sign the pledge.
